“Veritas Aequitas”

(Truth & Justice/Fairness)

For the fans who did not hear or did not have a chance to see Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, I am here to  inform you…that you have one last chance at redemption. As of November 25, 2009, Boondock Saints II is going into national release!  After funding issues and one hold up after another, Troy Duffy and the original Boondock Saints cast made the last 10 years well worth the wait.

A priest is killed in Boston and brothers, Connor MacManus (Sean Patrick Flanery) and Murphy MacManus (Norman Reedus), are framed for the murder.  To clear their names and serve up justice Boondock Saints style, they are forced to come out of hiding after living with their father in Ireland for the past 8 years.  Since their sidekick Rocco aka “The Funny Man” (David Della Rocco) was killed in the first movie, to complete their trinity, they befriended a Rocco-equivalent Mexican by the name of Romeo (Clifton Collins Jr).  The FBI agent to step into Paul Smecker’s (William DaFoe) role is Eunice Bloom (Julie Benz).  Although hard shoes to fill, Benz does an impeccable job acting and interpreting Smecker’s idiosyncrasies.

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day Official Trailer

If you are a fan of Boondock Saints, you will appreciate not only the original cast coming back for the sequel, but everything that made the first one great.  The prayer, the witty dialogues, the over the top crime scene explanations, everyones favorite neighborhood Irish arms dealer, the friendly/cursing/stuttering bar tender, epic gun fights and that confounded, stupid rope!!  There is also a special surprise at the end which was uncredited but momentous!

By staying true to everything they are about, Duffy is creating a masterpiece which hopefully involves a third movie.  It’s unfortunate these films do not get the credit they deserve in the mainstream world.  Boondock Saints I & II  are completely original in thought and execution.  They arent superheroes, but they are the hope that is devoted to wiping out evil and corruption and “[they] will send you to whatever God, you wish.”

“A thank you message to the fans from writer/director Troy Duffy and the two stars of Boondock Saints II, Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery.” (11.25.09)

Twilight Saga: New Moon – Epic Comeback November 28, 2009

oh the wonders of young monster/human love triangles.  human meets vampire, vampire leaves human, human ends up with werewolf, and vampire comes back.

Something magnificent happened come this New Moon, it was actually really good.  I am a fan of the Twilight books, but when I first saw Twilight, the movie, I was not sold.  I thought it was too corny and tried too hard to appease the fans.  By direct quoting, keeping everything so dark and the chemistry of the characters wasnt there.

New Moon successfully developed a strong relationship between Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner), which they failed to do so with Edward (Robert Pattinson) in Twilight.  The human emotions of friendship and the light-hearted wolf pack all interacted so nicely together, yet there is still this awkwardness when Edward was around.  Honestly, Stewart acts better when shes in scenes with Lautner.  It feels more natural since she doesnt have to worship the ground he walks on.

Unfortunately, the wolf pack didnt get a lot of action as much as the Cullens did in Twilight.  Hopefully they develop the families more come Eclipse (release: June 30, 2010).  The Volturi are everything you would have hoped them to be, civilized, cunning, and deadly.  From Aro to Jane, they casted a superb group of actors and actress. (*spoiler) It also doesnt hurt when they give a glimpse of Bella when she’s all vampired out.

I still dont like Stewart as Bella, but it is what it is at this point.  She still does that annoying lip biting thing.  After that video CollegeHumor put together, I couldnt help but notice if she stopped that annoying habit, sorry to say, she didnt – and Lautner started to do it too.

New Moon is the better of the two movies so far.  I liked the screenplay, it kept true to the major points of the book and Chris Weitz (Director) was still able to make it his own.  Regardless of the bad reviews, Weitz stated via ExtraTV, “What I’ve realized over the last week is I won’t necessarily get good reviews for this movie. Having swallowed that, this was made for the fans, and if you don’t get it, then you don’t get it.”

Oh, we get it Weitz!  Thank you for making this installation possible and helping me believe in the Twilight Movie Saga again!

so yea, i guess what peta is trying to do is cool, but being a human who takes their clothes off since she is neither vampire or werewolf is kind of pathetic.  this screams “i wish i was offered the role of a cullen or a quilete. sad face, cry cry.” maybe next time angela.

oh, what was that?  Team Human? ha ha, so funny.  if anything, i vote Team ERIC.

Let Me In – American Remake of Let the Right One In November 20, 2009

I can understand remaking a movie that was made decades ago, but Let the Right One In came out in 2008.  It’s the subtitles isnt it?

Matt Reeves is directing the American remake of the Swedish horror movie Let the Right One In.  Actually, he is renaming the film to its more accurate translation, Let Me In.  The movie is scheduled for release in 2010.  If you are having a hard time placing where you have heard of Matt Reeves, he was the one who was responsible for Cloverfield (2008).

So in Mr. Reeves’ rendition, Oskar and Eli are now Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Abby (Chloe Moretz).  Just looking at Moretz, I just can’t see it happening.  Lina Leandersson’s look and talent is just so natural and raw.

Let the Right One In is already epic, why waste money and effort in remaking something thats already true to form, had the author of the book write the screenplay, and having a setting which sets the dark tone for the whole movie.  Let Me In is set to happen in NEW MEXICO.  The only thing going good for this movie so far is Richard Jenkins, Abby’s Guardian, formerly known as Eli’s Guardian, Hakan.  This all just seems like a pathetic attempt to waste money trying to obtain a foothold in the whole vampire crazed fangirl scene.

The Originators.

Let the Right One In: Book vs Film November 20, 2009

*spoilers imminent

Book:  Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) by John Ajvide Lindqvist

Movie: Let the Right One In (2008), by Tomas Alfredson (Director), John Ajvide Lindqvist (Screenplay)

With 56 wins & 16 movie nominations under its belt, Let the Right One In, a Swedish horror-fiction novel and film, has become an international success.

The story takes place in Sweden, 1982.  The story mainly revolves around a 12-year-old boy, Oskar, and his new vampire friend Eli.  There are several sub stories happening throughout the movie/book which deals with dark issues and forbidden romance.  The book and the movie are almost one in the same.  There are lines from the book that translate to the movie without ever skipping a beat.  Although the movie hits on all major points, there are of course differences in the book.

OSKAR (Kare Hedebrant)

  • Oskar’s bullies refer to him as “piggy.”  In the book, Oskar is a husky kid, hence the nickname “piggy.”  For screen purposes, I am assuming Hedebrant was casted because he was creepy good at playing Oskar and had the right face for the role.

ELI (Lina Leandersson)

  • The movie beats to a dark rhythm, so there is hardly any room to make Eli more appealing.  In the book, Eli is and acts like a 12-year-old child.  There is a scene in the book where she blatantly makes fun of the guy in the candy booth and plays childish games with Oskar.
  • Since the movie didnt go in-depth with Hakan’s character, Eli’s caretaker, you did not see Eli’s willingness to do what she needed to do in order to survive. (Basically, her willingness to use her body to appease Hakan to kill for her.)
  • Theres a shot in the movie where Eli is sleeping in a bathtub bed, let me be the first to tell you, she sleeps somewhere a lot more horrific than that cozy little setup she has going on.
  • She has wings.
  • Eli is a hardcore fighter and can take hard hits.
  • In the movie, Eli shows Oskar the consequences of what happens when you dont invite a vampire in.  Right after that scene, Oskar is sitting on a couch and Eli is telling him, “be me, for a little while.”  The frames get all crazy and all of a sudden, he’s just sitting there.  What should have happened there is Oskar gets flooded with the memories of Eli’s vampire change from her point of view.
  • Warning: Kissing Eli can also induce even more visions of her past, with or without your consent.
  • The movie doesn’t delve into Eli’s sexuality.  It throws you off because she says she’s not a girl, but it’s never explained.  The book goes into how she got to be where she is and why she’s been stripped of any gender.
  • Eli stands for Elijah.

HAKAN (Per Ragnar)

  • Pedophile to the grossest degree.  They showed little cheek strokes, but in the book he is completely disgusting.
  • There is this internal war waging when he kills for her.  Since they dont develop him in the movie, you just assume he does it and he doesnt think twice about it.
  • As Hakan is prepping his kill in the bathroom in the movie, the book tells a completely different story. The acid-to-face happened, but the whole scene was brushed over in order to get him out of the story as soon as possible.
  • Hakan doesnt just die after Eli feeds from him.  If you noticed, Eli had to break Jocke’s neck in order for him not to rise up as a vampire.  Virginia on the other hand was fed off of but was never disposed of properly.  Lets just say Eli was negligent in taking Hakan out all the way.
  • In the book, he plays a MAJOR role in the ending.  He turns into something like a zombie though.  Regardless, hes still as sick in the head as a zombie as he is as alive.
  • Hakan likes boy-Eli.

There are more differences, but the movie hit all of the main points and tied them nicely together.  The book is really something else.  Although, the end scene when Eli becomes Oskar’s angel of death is so much cooler to watch than too read.

I think I died a little when I found these guys on YouTube.  I love when you search for random crap and you find something glorious.  VideoTards are two guys who have found the ultimate solution in making movies way better than they actually are.  They basically heckle the crap out of bad movies and they’re pretty damn good at it.  Honestly, it’s like listening to two geeky Beavis and Butthead’s do movie commentary.

The movies they have reviewed are Deadly Prey, Hackers and Enter the Dragon.  They are working on hacking up Independence Day, but I hope they do Twilight. The movie was horrific, yet it earned $383.7 million worldwide.
